Laying the foundation
Let's face it, your body is so used to being crooked, it thinks crooked is normal! In order to get you feeling and functioning better, we're going to have to retrain it. Chiropractic adjustments work over a SERIES of visits to retrain the spine and nervous system, removing obstructions to healing process, to help decrease your pain, improve your function, and preserve your mobility.
On the first visit, you'll have a consultation with Dr. Nance. We'll then perform a detailed orthopedic and neurological evaluation. If x-rays are needed, we can perform those in the office too, so there's no need for you to go anywhere else! Next, Dr. Nance will compile and evaluate the information collected from the consultation, examination, and imaging, to come up with an adjusting plan that's just right for you. If your case is complex, we may have you come back for your first adjustment, but if your case is more straightforward, we may even begin care the same day!
Remember, just like other things in life, having a plan with clear goals is the best way to proceed. We'll create a custom plan just for you!
There are three general phases of chiropractic care . . .
Phase 1: Relief Care
If you are in pain when you come into our office, the first objective is to help you feel better. Depending on the severity of your problem, we may even see you daily, but it is typical to need care 2-3 times per week for 4-8 weeks.
Phase 2: Corrective/Restorative Care
During the corrective care phase, muscles and other tissues will finish the rest of their healing. Because you're no longer in acute pain, we'll typically decrease your care to 1-2 times per week for several more weeks, depending on your overall health and the severity of your problem.
Phase 3: Wellness Care
Once you're doing well, it would be a good idea to maintain your alignment, so your condition doesn't regress. Of course, you're not going to stop living your life, and you'll probably still do some of those things that caused your pain in the first place, so once your body has reached its health potential, it is important to come in for periodic adjustments to keep you living your best life. Usually, this only requires a quick visit about 1 time every 2-4 weeks, based on your lifestyle and goals.
